Help The Charlie Center Grow.

Join our efforts to serve and house more Northwest Austin neighbors experiencing homelessness.

From Homeless to Housed

Since our founding, The Charlie Center has served neighbors experiencing homelessness with compassion and excellence. Every Wednesday and Thursday, our staff and volunteers take a process-driven, holistic approach to help individuals navigate from homeless to housed. And with your support, over 130 neighbors have transitioned into housing.

What we do changes lives. And with more opportunities to serve neighbors, we can change more lives.

COMING SOON: Tuesday Services

The Charlie Center is adding Tuesdays to our days of service this June.

With a third day of service, we will offer more nutritious meals, longer respite, deeper trust, and more regular connections in pursuit of housing. Your support will make all of this possible.

A Day at The Charlie Center

What’s in a day at The Charlie Center?

Comfort

Living unhoused requires constant vigilance. Staying safe from extreme weather and exposure, finding friendly places to rest, keeping track of all the documents required to pursue housing, locating that next meal - it takes a toll on the body, mind and soul.

The Charlie Center is a respite from the challenges of the street. It’s a place with fresh air, hot food, strong coffee, and friendly faces. A place to set down bags, meet needs with dignity, and take a deep breath in the safety of community. These calm, comfortable times are a gift we’re proud to share - and they are only possible because of the donations we receive from local supporters like you.

Care

Starting over isn’t easy. The team at The Charlie Center knows what a scary, overwhelming challenge it can be for unhoused neighbors to take the first step. Many have tried before, but left the process after months of waiting, road-blocks, or disappearing case managers. Others have made it through the housing process before, only to end up unsheltered again.

Our customized approach to navigating the housing process takes neighbors by the hand, ensuring they understand and feel supported through every step of the journey. Team members track mail, call state offices for old records, reach out to family members for information or to reestablish connections–all in support of the stability our neighbors deserve.

We provide this care with dignity, compassion, humility, and transparency. Building trust takes time and consistency, and our approach ensures we’re reliable partners in what can feel like a daunting process.

Connection

For people experiencing homelessness, shelter and comfort aren’t their only challenges. Access to communication tools, medical care, government benefits, and other sources of financial, physical, and social supports can help create stability on the road to housing.

The Charlie Center partners with local service providers to bring these supports onsite, reducing the required time and complexity to meet needs. As part of the homeless response system, The Charlie Center maintains relationships with mission-aligned organizations serving our neighbors.

Community

The Charlie Center is more than a navigation center; it is a community of Central Texans committed to a brighter future for our homeless friends. Inside and outside, clients, volunteers, and staff share stories, meals, and celebrations of the milestones on the path to housing.

The Charlie Center is a shared space for dignity, compassion, and connection. Regardless of their role, every person who comes to the navigation center matters to our mission of moving people from homeless to housed.

THANK YOU
